The total number of foreign travellers who visited South Africa from mainland Africa, overseas and unspecified countries, arriving through all ports of entry during August 2005 was 650 290. The August 2005 figure represents an increase of 14,3% as compared with the August 2004 figure of 568 890. During August 2005, the most common mode of travel used by foreign travellers arriving in South Africa was road, involving 461 980 (71,0%) travellers while the total number of foreign travellers departing, road constituted the most common mode of travel 402 987 (69,9%).
