In October 2024, 2 365 952 travellers (arrivals, departures, and transits) passed through South Africa’s ports of entry/exit. They comprised 642 974 South African residents and 1 722 978 foreign travellers. Foreign arrivals, 912 229 comprised 20 888 non-visitors and 891 341 visitors. The visitors consisted of 186 084 same-day visitors and 705 257 overnight visitors (tourists). The breakdown of tourists by region is as follows 189 575 from overseas; 499 446 from SADC countries; 15 132 from 'other' African countries and the country of residence of 1 104 tourists were classified as unspecified.
