Key findings: P0305 - Recorded live births, 2011
In 2011, 1 202 377 live births were registered at the Department of Home Affairs. This number represents a decrease of 7,1% from a total of 1 294 694 births registered in 2010. A total of 911 353 births that occurred in 2011 were registered within the year of birth, representing an increase of 2,4% from the 889 691 births that occurred and were registered in 2010. It was estimated that by June 2011, 90,2% of the births that occurred in 2011 had been registered. Overall, there were slightly more male than female children born and registered in 2011. Most of these children were born to women aged 20
