Key findings: P0305 - Recorded live births, 2010
In 2010, 1 294 694 live births were registered at the Department of Home Affairs. This number represents an increase of 3,2% from a total of 1 254 707 births registered in 2009. A total of 889 691 births that occurred in 2010 were registered within the year of birth, representing an increase of 1,1% from the 879 707 births that occurred and were registered in 2009. It was estimated that by June 2011, 88,0% of the births that occurred in 2010 had been registered. Overall, there were slightly more male than female children born and registered in 2010. Most of these children were born to women aged 20
