Key findings: P0305 - Recorded live births, 2008
In 2008, 1 277 763 live births were registered at the Department of Home Affairs. This represents an increase of 6,5% from a total of 1 199 712 births registered in 2007. KwaZulu Natal and Gauteng had the highest number of registered births. A total of 915 674 births occurred in 2008 and were registered within the year of their occurrence. This represents an increase of 6,6% from 2007 in which births that were registered within the year of their occurrence was 858 866. The completeness of 2008 births registered within the year of birth was 91,8%.
