Key findings: P0305 - Recorded live births, 2007

A total of 1 199 712 live births were registered at the Department of Home Affairs in 2007. This figure represents a decrease of 10,9% from a total of 1 346 119 births registered in 2006. KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng had the highest numbers of registered births. A total of 858 866 of the births that occurred in 2007 in South Africa were registered during the year of occurrence, representing a decrease of 0,2% from the 860 263 births that had occurred in 2006 and were registered during the year of occurrence. The completeness of births registered within the year of birth in 2007 was 81,0% and there was a decrease in the proportion of births registered late.
