Key findings: P0305 - Recorded live births, 2005
In 2005, a total of 1 380 496 live births were registered at the Department of Home Affairs. This represents a decrease of 6,5% from a total of 1 475 809 births registered in 2004. KwaZulu Natal and Eastern Cape had the highest number of registered births, although these provinces also had the highest proportion of births registered late. A total of 793 788 of births that occurred in 2005 were registered, representing an increase of 9,5% from the 728 283 births that occurred and were registered in 2004. Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal recorded the highest number of births in 2005.
