Key findings: P0277.2 - Quarterly Employment Statistics (Average Monthly Earnings), November 2005

Average monthly earnings, including bonuses and overtime payments, paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased by 1,5% between August 2005 and November 2005.

According to the December 2005 QES survey, an estimated average of R7 112 was paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector during November 2005.  This was 1,5% more than the revised estimated average of R7 006 paid to employees during August 2005.  Increases in estimated average monthly earnings were reported by the manufacturing industry (+4,3%); the electricity, gas and water supply industry (+2,7%); the financial intermediation, insurance, real estate and business services industry (+2,0%); the wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, motor cycles and personal and household goods; hotels and restaurants industry (+2,0%); the mining and quarrying industry (+1,9%); and the community, social and personal services industry (+1,3%).  A decrease of 1,2% in estimated monthly earnings was reported by the construction industry whereas transport, storage and communication industry remained unchanged.
