Key findings: P0277.2 - Quarterly Employment Statistics (Average Monthly Earnings), August 2005

Average monthly earnings, including bonuses and overtime payments, paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased by 3,5% between May 2005 and August 2005.

According to the September 2005 QES survey, an estimated average of R6 994 was paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector during August 2005.  This was 3,5% more than the estimated average paid to employees during May 2005.  Increases in estimated average monthly earnings were reported by the mining and quarrying industry (+9,6%);  the transport, storage and communication industry (+4,9%); the electricity, gas and water supply industry (+4,4%); the manufacturing industry (+4,4%); the wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, motor cycles and personal and household goods; hotels and restaurants industry (+4,4%); the community, social and personal services industry (+2,2%); the financial intermediation, insurance, real estate and business services industry (+2,1%); and the construction industry (+2,1%).
