Key findings: P0277 - Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES), June 2007

Employment in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased between the quarters ended March 2007 and June 2007.
The June 2007 Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) survey showed that the number of people employed in the formal non-agricultural business sector of the South African economy increased by about 53 000 persons (or +0,6%) from March 2007 (an estimated  8 244 000 employees) to June 2007 (an estimated 8 297 000 employees).

Gross earnings paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased between the quarters ended March 2007 and June 2007.
According to the June 2007 Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) survey gross earnings paid to employees during the quarter ended June 2007 (April 2007 to June 2007) amounted to R211 225 million. This represents a quarterly increase of R6 033 million (or +2,9%) compared with the quarter ended  March 2007(January 2007 to March 2007).

Employment in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased between the quarters ended June 2006 and June 2007.
According to the June 2007 Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) survey an estimated 8 297 000 people were employed in the formal non-agricultural business sector of the South African economy. This reflected an annual increase of about   238 000 employees (or + 3,0%) compared with June 2006 (an estimated 8 059 000 employees).

Gross earnings paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased between the quarters ended June 2006 and June 2007.
The gross earnings paid to employees during the quarter ended June 2007 (April 2007 to June 2007) amounted to R211 225 million. This reflects an annual increase of R20 375 million (or +10,7%) compared with June 2006 (April 2006 to June 2006).

Average monthly earnings, including bonuses and overtime payments, paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased between February 2007 and May 2007.
The June 2007 Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) survey showed that average monthly earnings, including bonuses and overtime payments, paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased by 2,8% between February 2007 and May 2007.

Average monthly earnings, including bonuses and overtime payments, paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector increased between May 2006 and May 2007.
The June 2007 Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) survey reflected an annual increase of 7,5% in average monthly earnings paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural business sector between May 2006 (an estimated R7 531) and May 2007 (an estimated R8 093).
