IMPROVING LIVES THROUGH DATA ECOSYSTEMS

Statistics South Africa has updated the entire series of LFS results to reflect the new population estimates released in February 2005. Until now, only the two most recent rounds of the LFS (released in March and June this year) reflected these new estimates. In addition, all rounds of the series have now been benchmarked to Census 2001, including the early rounds that were previously benchmarked to Census 1996. The resulting estimates are now comparable for the entire series to date. In view of the sample size, caution must be exercised when interpreting LFS data at geographic levels lower than province. A table showing a comparison of old and new key indicators will be published at a later stage.
