This report presents the results of South Africa’s first set of accounts for protected areas for the period 1900 to 2020, which form part of Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) and the Stats SA’s Natural Capital series. This report provides background on NCA, what protected areas and accounts for protected areas are, the scope, purpose and potential uses of these accounts, and key indicators that can be drawn from the accounts.
