Mkhambathini

Mkhambathini Local Municipality is located along the south-eastern boundary of the uMgungundlovu District Municipality and adjoins the Richmond and Msunduzi municipalities to the west, uMshwathi to the north and the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality to the east. The municipal offices are located in the town of Camperdown. Mkhambathini has several comparative advantages emanating from its location near Durban and Pietermaritzburg and adjoining Cato Ridge, which is an industrial node. Richmond

Richmond Municipality is situated south of Msunduzi, west of Mkhambathini and the Sisonke District in the south west. Richmond enjoys a competitive advantage in the field of agriculture that contributes to more than 50% of the gross geographic product and employment in the area. Historically, Richmond was one of the main destinations of the Bhambatha Rebellion and the Byrne Settlers. Umtshezi

uMtshezi Local Municipality is an administrative area in the Uthukela District of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. uMtshezi is an isiZulu word for Bushman or San. uMtshezi Local Municipality comprises parts of the Magisterial Districts of Weenen and Estcourt, the informal settlements of Cornfields, Thembalihle, Mimosadale, and numerous settlements around Weenen. Estcourt is the largest commercial centre in the Midlands region, and an important service centre for the nearby towns of Mooi River, Winterton, Bergville, Colenso and Weenen. Weenen is a small agricultural town that is starting to emerge as a tourist destination. uMlalazi

uMlalazi Local Municipality is made up of the towns of Eshowe, Mtunzini, and Gingindlovu. The villages of Amatikulu and Ntumeni, together with considerable rural hinterland, cover one of the largest geographical areas of all municipalities in South Africa, with a total area of 2 217 km2. The municipal area is dominated by tribal areas, and 14 Tribal Authorities exist within the area (uMlalazi municipality website). The area appears to have sufficient sources for the provision of water. A complicating factor is the undulating topography, which is characteristic of the entire municipal area. In some instances it is therefore difficult and expensive to provide these services. Arterial roads through the area are in good condition.
