Thulamela

Thulamela Local Municipality is a category B municipality established in terms of the Local Government Structures Act number 117 of 1998. Thulamela Local Municipality is one of the four local municipalities comprising Vhembe District Municipality. It is the eastern most local municipality in the district. The Kruger National Park forms the boundary in the east. The municipality borders Mutale Municipality in the north-east and Makhado Municipality in the south-west. 47,7% of the entire Vhembe districts population lives in Thulamela Local municipality. Makhado

Named after a 19th century vhaVenda king, Makhado, who ruled the area for many years, this is a fertile region where litchis, bananas, mangoes and nuts are produced. The national road (N1) runs through the town.

Makhado is situated in a highly fertile, rapidly growing agricultural area; the town has become one of Limpopo's premier business and tourist destinations and is the perfect springboard from which to visit the Songozwi sacred burial site of the vhaVenda, as well as Makhado's 'office', a secluded cave from where the chief conducted his campaign against the Voortrekkers.

The well-known town of Louis Trichardt is situated at the foot of the Soutpansberg mountain range in Limpopo and was developed from the Voortrekker settlement in the area. It was named after the leader Louis Trichardt, who moved away from British rule in the Cape and arrived here in 1836.

Dipaleseng

Dipaleseng Local Municipality is situated in the southern part of the GertSibande District Municipality. Balfour is located in the heart of world-renowned coalfields and the Goldfields belt. This modern and predominantly industrial town is located in close proximity (80km) to the nationally well-known industrial areas of Johannesburg. The Balfour/Siyathemba urban area is 340km from Nelspruit and 80km from Johannesburg. The internationally known abattoir, the biggest abattoir in Africa, is found in Dipaleseng (Balfour town), with a vast number of by-products including inorganic chemicals, fertilizers, etc.being manufactured in the area.

Moretele

Moretele Local Municipality is located in an area called Moretele, which is situated far north of Pretoria in the North West province. The municipality was built in 2000, and covers an area of 1369km2. It is located strategically to join four provinces, namely North West, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Moretele is the Setswana name for a river that runs through the area, namely Noka ya Moretele (the Moretele River).

The Municipality comprises of 24 wards, which are made up of 66 villages and plots. Most villages are ruled by 4 traditional leaders(Dikgosi) who are recognised by law and who all represent their respective tribes/communities in council.

Naledi

Naledi Local Municipality (NW392) covers a total area of approximately 7,258 km. This land mass is 15% of the total area of the Dr. Ruth S Mompati District Municipality area. The administrative centre of the municipality is in the town of Vryburg. The town of Vryburg is considered the agricultural and industrial centre of Dr Ruth S Mompati District Municipality. The town is the host to the 3rd largest agricultural show in South Africa, namely Vryburg Show, which attracts farmers from almost all provinces in the country as well as farmers from the neighbouring countries such as the Republic of Namibia and Botswana. This makes the municipality the main employer within the district and most significant contributor to GDP. Naledi Local Municipality is separated into five main places, namely, Vryburg town, Huhudi township, Colridge township, Stella, Devondale and Dithakwaneng village. The municipal area is surrounded by the other three local municipalities within the district, namely, Greater Taung Municipality (70km), Kagisano Molopo Municipality (70km) and Mamusa Municipality(70km). The town of Vryburg is about 140km away from Kuruman town in the Northern Cape Province and 160km from Mahikeng municipality, the administrative centre of the North West Province.
