Makhado

Named after a 19th century vhaVenda king, Makhado, who ruled the area for many years, this is a fertile region where litchis, bananas, mangoes and nuts are produced. The national road (N1) runs through the town.

Makhado is situated in a highly fertile, rapidly growing agricultural area; the town has become one of Limpopo's premier business and tourist destinations and is the perfect springboard from which to visit the Songozwi sacred burial site of the vhaVenda, as well as Makhado's 'office', a secluded cave from where the chief conducted his campaign against the Voortrekkers.

The well-known town of Louis Trichardt is situated at the foot of the Soutpansberg mountain range in Limpopo and was developed from the Voortrekker settlement in the area. It was named after the leader Louis Trichardt, who moved away from British rule in the Cape and arrived here in 1836.

Blouberg

This municipality is in Limpopo and was originally established in the year 2000 after the amalgamation of the Bochum-My-Darling, Alldays-Buysdorp, and parts of Moletjie-Matlala TLCs. It is situated in the North western boundary of the Republic of South Africa with Botswana and Zimbabwe where the Limpopo River serves as the border between the municipality, Botswana and Zimbabwe. It is largely a rural municipality with 99,8% of the settlement being tribal or traditional and it is situated 95 km from Polokwane and has 21 wards.

Molemole

Molemole Local Municipality is located about 60�km north of Polokwane within the Capricorn District. It is in the town of Mogwadi, formerly known as Dendron. The municipality is bordered to the south by Polokwane Municipality, to the north-west by Blouberg Municipality, to the south-east by Greater Letaba Municipality in Mopani District, and to the north by Makhado Municipality in Vhembe District. One national road, the N1, crosses through the municipal area linking Molemole with Zimbabwe to the north, whereas the provincial road P94/1 (R521) passes through the municipality and links Molemole to Botswana to the west. It is the smallest municipality in the Capricorn District with 14 wards. The municipality is named after one of the mountains surrounding the area.

Mookgopong

Mookgophong is a charming and thriving town in the Waterberg encircled by peaceful nature reserves and steaming hot springs. The Bushveld climate and attractive resorts in the area attract holidaymakers all year round. Mookgophong (previously known as Naboomspruit) dates back to the late 1800's when it was a rest station for the Pretoria-Polokwane mail coach. Although the little village eventually developed around the railway station on the farm Naboomspruit, Mookgophong owes its growth largely to the discovery of minerals in the area in the early 1900's. The discovery of tin led to a "tin rush" in 1910 and turned this little village into a boom town of restaurants, cabarets and trading stores. The discovery of platinum in later years added to the town�s expansion.The town is named after the euphorbia tree. The new name Mookgophong has the same meaning as the original Naboomspruit.read more »

Mogalakwena

The Mogalakwena Municipality, classified as a category B local municipality, was established on 5 December 2000 when various municipalities and councils that had previously served Potgietersrus and surrounding areas were integrated. The following local authorities were amalgamated to form the new municipality:

• The Greater Potgietersrus (Mokopane)
• Bakenberg
• Koedoesrand\Rebone

Mogalakwena Municipality is situated in the western quadrant of Limpopo, within the western district of the Waterberg Municipality, and is bordered by Aganang to the east, Mookgopong to the south, and Lephalale to the north. The stunning bushveld environment and a multi-cultural community and history give Mokopane a unique character. The town and immediate surroundings boast fascinating ancient caves, the Big Five, San rock art, curios, typically bushveld food and drink such as biltong (dried meat) and mampoer (a potent drink), tropical gardens and traditional dancing.read more »
