Saron is Afrikaans for Sharon. The name is of biblical origin (1 Chronicles 27:29, Song of Solomon 2:1), and means 'a plain'. The settlement was established by the Rhenish Missionary Society and it has its name written on the side of the Saronsberg. (GPS coordinates: 33.1825 S, 19.0076 E).
