Hilton was built on the farm Ongegund, which was purchased in 1853 by Arthur Lucas and Joseph Henderson. The farm was renamed Hilton after a villiage in England. The name is Anglo-Saxon, meaning 'high farm'. (GPS coordinates: 29.5455 S, 30.2981 E).
