Fauresmith was established in 1850 on the farm Sannah's Poort and was named after two individuals: moderator of the Dutch Reformed Church, Philip Eduard Faure, and Sir Harry Smith, Governor of the Cape. (GPS coordinates: 29.7525 S, 25.3184 E).
