Augrabies takes its name from the Augrabies Falls nearby. The name is Khoikhoi and possibly means 'hollow place'. Augrabies Falls was originally called King George's Cataract and Hercules Falls, but these names did not stick. (GPS coordinates: 28.6696 S, 20.4261 E).
