Colesberg was first named Toverberg when it was established in 1830, after a nearby hill, but then renamed after Sir Galbraith Lowry Cole (1772-1842), Governor of the Cape Colony from 1828 to 1833. (GPS coordinates: 30.7301 S, 25.0933 E).
