Port Alfred first carried the name of Port Frances, but was renamed in 1860 after the second son of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, who visited the Orange Free State, Natal and the Cape Colony in 1860. (GPS coordinates: 33.5945 S, 26.8658 E).
