Aberdeen was originally established on the farm Brakkefontein as a settlement of the Dutch Reformed Church in 1856. It is named after the town of Aberdeen in Scotland, birthplace of the Reverend Andrew Murray of Graaff-Reinet. (GPS coordinates: 32.4763 S, 24.0833 E).
