Graaff Reinet is the fourth oldest settlement in South Africa and was founded by the Dutch East India Company in 1786. It was named after the governor of Cape Colony, Cornelis Jacob van de Graeff, and his wife, whose maiden name was Reynet. (GPS coordinates: 32.2613 S, 24.5548 E).
