Saldanha is named after Saldanha Bay. The name is derived from the Portuguese Agoada se Saldanha, which means 'watering place of Saldanha'. It was the name originally given to Table Bay, and refers to Admiral Antonio de Saldanha, who was a Portuguese explorer. (GPS coordinates: 33.0083 S, 17.9394 E).
