Aurora is adapted from the Khoikhoi oro, recorded in 1776 for 'coldish' or 'water hole'. Another explanation could be that the name is taken directly from the name for the Roman goddess of dawn. (GPS coordinates: 32.7068 S, 18.4839 E).
