Oudtshoorn is named for Geesje von Oudtshoorn, granddaughter of Baron Pieter van Rheede van Oudtshoorn, Governor of the Cape in 1772-1773 and a wife of one Bergh, civil commissioner at George in the 1850's. It is well known as the centre of South Africa's ostrich industry. (GPS coordinates: 33.587 S, 22.2098 E).
