Daveyton was established in 1956, and it was named after Mrs M Davey, a town councillor who played a part in its establishment. The township claims to be the place where kota originated. Kota is taken from the word quarter, which has become a popular meal that consists of a quarter of bread with choice fillings. Daveyton is also known by the nickname Vutha or Tuka due to it being the first black township to have access to electricity. (GPS coordinates: 26.1431 S, 28.4226 E).
