Fochville was named after Marshall Ferdinand Foch (1851-1929), Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Forces in France during the First World War. The town itself was established during that war on portions of the farms Kraalkop and Eeuspruit, and was officially proclaimed on 15 November 1920. (GPS coordinates: 26.4851 S, 27.49 E).
