Oukasie adjoins the town of Brits. Developed in 1930s, the township's name means 'old location' in Afrikaans. During the last years of apartheid, the people of the area refused to be relocated to Lethlabile in the then homeland of Bophuthatswana. Their protest to avoid resettlement drew international attention. (GPS coordinates: 25.6028 S, 27.7938 E).
