Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, March 2019

The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 1,4% (-R353,9 million) in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the first quarter of 2018. Decreases were recorded for non-residential buildings (-11,8% or -R747,2 million) and additions and alterations (-6,2% or -R430,7 million). Residential buildings increased by 6,6% (R824,1 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) increased by 42,9% (R6 339,5 million) in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the first quarter of 2018. Increases were recorded for non-residential buildings (67,5% or R2 276,9 million), residential buildings (44,6% or R3 797,3 million) and additions and alterations (9,1% or R265,3 million).
